SEO Terminologies

1. Anchor Text - The visible text of a link. If in HTML form, a link has a structure: <a href=”#”>Click here</a>, then Click here is your anchor text. Anchor text is the most important factor in SEO because of 3 things. Firstly, Google uses anchor text to judge the relevancy between referring site and destination site.

2. Backlinks - Backlinks are links from other pages to your site. In SEO,  you’re trying to obtain as many backlinks as you can to homepage and other pages of your websites using keywords that match with their contents.

3. Bounce rate - Percentage of visitors who land to your page and exit right away without viewing other pages. Bounce rate is caused by many things, include content doesn't match with what users are looking for, server downtime and a lot more.

4. Index -  index is like an dictionary of search engine where it keep tracks of search terms and related websites.

5. Keyword cannibalization - The excessive use of some keywords across many pages of your website that makes it hard for Google rank. Like keyword stuffing, which is excessive use of same keyword on an article, keyword cannibalization should be avoided when you do your on-site SEO.

6. Link bait - Link bait is used very often in blogging world. Problogger and DailyBlogTips are two sites that have a lots of link bait posts which have very high number of backlinks.

7. Link farm - The practice of creating a network of sites that you own without letting Google know about them in order to build backlinks.

8. On-site SEO - The practice of making your web page relevant to what people are searching for. To achieve perfect on-site SEO, you have to know what keywords people use to search for your content first.

9. Organic link - Links which are obtained naturally; someone volunteers to link to your content because it’s valuable to him or his users.

10. Off-site SEO - The practice of increasing popularity of your site in order to get more higher position in Google results. If on-site SEO makes sure your web page is included in search results, link building gives it higher rank so more people will know and click on your site.
